WOW! 101 Entries To a ROAR Regional Race? BUT, that’s what you get when the track is Carolina RC Complex and you are in the middle of Oval Track headquarters. Congratulations to Donnie Burnett and ALL of the CRCC crew for yet another great event. The weather was great with temperatures in the low to mid 80’s and only a slight chance of a shower that ended up skirting around us for the most part. With the track being so warm, what little shower we got on Friday night was only a minor inconvenience and hardly anything to cause any real problems. We arrived in Easley, South Carolina at around 9:30 Friday evening and set up Larry’s trailer and our pit areas. This gave us a little time to make a run or two with the gas cars before we headed to the Motel. The number of pit trailers and tents set up along the perimeter of the track along with the crowded indoor pit area hinted to the fact that this was not going to be any small event. Even at the late hour that we were there, the track stayed busy with racers doing their testing and adjusting. One of the neat things that keeps you “in the race mood” at CRCC are the sounds of the real late model cars coming from down the road at Greenville Pickens Raceway and they were really active Saturday night! Nothing like “good ol Southern short tracken” on a Saturday night! And that’s what we were having too; some good old Southern oval track racing, only on a smaller scale but being located a stone’s throw from Pickens sure doesn’t hurt the atmosphere. Carolina RC Complex will be the host of the 2008 ROAR Nationals and if this race was any indication of the turnout, it’s going to be one of the biggest that it’s been in years, even surpassing the 2007 event held at the same place. Donnie Burnett and all of the people at CRCC do what can only be described as a fantastic job when it comes to putting on an event of this magnitude. This year ROAR will be bring the RMT to keep things running smooth. I can only hope that they do as good of a job as the CRCC crew because they have some awful big shoes to fill. It’s always a pleasure to race there and well worth the drive that we have to make to get there from our home in Virginia. Too much cannot be said about the way you are treated and the hard work that the race crew on our behalf when you are at their track. It’s truly Southern hospitality at its finest. I feel that it would also only be fair for me to warn those of you that may want to “bend the rules” a little to enhance their “fun”; when Donnie says that he will send you home……………believe him! And believe me when I say; your “status” in the racing community will carry very little weight. I only say this for the benefit of the “want to be” heroes that can’t play by the rules. If you are among the 99.9% of the rest of us that do play by them, you will have the best time racing that you ever have while you are there. Thanks Donnie for another great event and the “Mafia” is looking forward to July when the RC-Oval series returns to your place. As always, I think that race reports are about as interesting as watching grass grow, so follow the below link and you will find all of the race results and pictures of the winners. http://www.carolinarc.com/index.html |
